The Basic Rules of Blackjack.....

Blackjack may be one of the easiest games to learn, while at the same time it can also be one of the hardest to master. The following set of basic instructions will be enough to bring a novice up to speed and help you feel comfortable with Blackjack.

The game is set up into 2 sides, the dealer and the player(s). The object of Blackjack is twofold – add cards up as close as you can to 21 without busting, or get a higher value then the dealer. Before looking much further into the rule s , let’s pause and take a look at the point value of each card. Cards 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are valued as shown. Ex a 7 has a value of 7. The face cards, Jack, Queen, King , have a value of 10, and the Ace can have 2 values. In most games it can count as 11 or as 1 at players choice, while in other versions it can only equal 1.

After a player wagers a bet, 2 cards are dealt to them and 2 cards to the dealer. In traditional Blackjack, one card is usually dealt face down and the second face up. At this time the player must decide whether they require an additional card (hit) or if they wish to stay with their current cards (stand). A player may request more cards as often as they wish, until they add up to more then 21, which is known as going bust.

When a player is dealt a two cards of equal value, they have the option of splitting their cards into 2 separate hands. At this time each card is dealt an additional card and each hand is treated separately with potential to win and lose money in each hand.

If a player wishes they may double their bet and receive 1 more card from the dealer. This will increase winnings if the player wins the hand.

If the dealers up card is an Ace the player then has the option of placing an additional bet. If played the dealer will check to see if they were dealt a Blackjack, if so the player wins the insurance wager, if not the player loses the insurance and Blackjack continues as normal.

Blackjack Dealer restrictions:

In most casinos a dealer must hit until they have 17 then they must stay, in some casinos a dealer is allowed to hit on a soft 17. This rule is beneficial to the player as it can give a higher probability of busting when the dealer is dealt with cards totaling less than 17, and if the dealer is dealt cards above 17 but below 20 players have an opportunity to beat the dealer as they are no longer permitted to draw from the deck.

When sitting at the Blackjack table, you will notice a table minimum and maximum. This indicates the lowest bet allowed to be played at the table as well as the highest initial bet that will be accepted.
