Isolation, Bluffing and the Maniac!!!

Isolation, Bluffing and the Maniac!!!.....

More number of times than I would care to count, newbies (both friends and acquaintances) asked me this question: "how should we deal with a maniac at the poker game?" There are actually more than a few ways on which to handle this, but let me share with you one of the more effective maneuvers.

One good way to meet head-on this type of player is to keep his/her pots "meager". This could be done by isolating him when you are holding what could be the strongest holding, after which...go on passive mode. Either: reraise him to kick out the others out of contention or let him reraise so that the rest would be kicked out. When you have him "alone"...you can call OR check-call, whichever is appropriate, whichever you think would serve your interests best.

Odds are, he/she is bluffing...and when you go raising, you could force him to concede. It would be best when dealing with a maniac to wait up to the river stage (in raising) if you are confident with your holding. It is one of the most crucial hints to remember: have him/her bluff each dime that he has..."encourage" him to bluff.
